The past is like a resilient enemy, no matter how hard we try to forget, something always shakes a memory loose. And it glares at us from the depths of our nightmares, sometimes like a subtle mirage, or sometimes like a tempest. Whether we like it or not, it always disrupts our lives.
Our lives are entangled in an unending web of lies. At one point or another, we get caught in the web. The lies we tell ourselves, the lies we tell others, the lies we cannot admit to ourselves, the web keeps entangling. Before we realize we are in deep. And all we can do is hope that the lies do not consume us. So we convince ourselves that what we see is the truth. After all, every lie can become truth and every truth can become a lie depending on which side you choose to believe.
Any man who decides to play God must expect the wrath that follows. After all, society treats imposters very harshly.
Forgiving others is easy, the hardest part is forgiving ourselves. We would rather blame ourselves for the wrongs we have done and let them gnaw at our conscience for eternity. Somehow the guilt we feel convinces us that we deserve the brutality of self-loathsomeness. Surely, how can we feel worthy of self absolution if we cannot get past the guilt? It never leaves us alone, it clings and it claws, always reminding us of our past iniquities.
Karma, some people take it lightly. Perhaps life has always been fair to them. But to those who cannot lean on justice; those who cannot fight for themselves, karma is all they can hope for to gain retribution. After all, someone has to pay for the sins committed against them, and nature acknowledges this.
